I own the SX10 and really like it, but am looking out for the best next generation Canon, preferably with CMOS sensor, i.e. to replace the SX1. My favorite review site is here:

cameralabs /reviews/Canon_PowerShot_SX30_IS/verdict.shtml

You'll see comments about the FZ100, which I've not used. I think the main things going for the SX30 are: 1) better image stabilization and autofocus than others, 2) learn the Canon menu system for moving up to DSLR, 3) zoom range.

ALL the cameras at this level have the problems of chromatic aberration (purple fringing) for high contrast images, and a "slow lens" that can shock you on an overcast day, when you can't get a decent hand held shot because the lens limits you to f/5.6 or a crummy ISO 800. I keep another oldy but goody camera for situations where I know my zoomer won't work.

So I would say, think hard about the photography you will really want to do and whether you want to pack a tripod, and look into high quality competitors like Canon G12 with lower zooms but better image quality, unless you really need all that zoom - don't pretend to yourself that the zoom comes without compromises.

This Canon SX30IS camera is very easy to use. The zoom is "sick" but you will have a lot of noise because of the high ISO. Low light performance on par with cheap point and shoots. One shot per second is very disappointing for a camera in this price range. All in all a great little camera for the kids.

If you decide on the SX30, I have one that is brand new that I am selling. I will beat any vendors price that you find online. If you are interested email me.

From above both camera option i would suggest Canon SX30 IS.The Canon SX30 follows the SX20 and currently has the longest zoom range on the compact camera market,a 35x zoom equivalent to 24 - 840mm at f/2.7 - 5.8. IN this camera you can take shots from unusual angles and still see the screen. and also Canon SX30 IS has 10 color modes and one customizable mode.
