Default Question: Will an overvoltage power supply kill my camera?

I just pulled my old VHS-C Panasonic camcorder out of the closet. The battery is stone dead and won't recharge at all. The camera can run off of wall power (6 volt), but I don't have the wall plug anymore. I do, however, have a 9 volt power supply. Yes, it was stupid, but I tried it, and the camera appears to work perfectly fine with no issue. Should I continue to use it like this or do I risk burning something out and ruining the camera?
