Default "Atheists are intolerant" says head of BBC Trust Chris Patten

When any person or group of people ridicule, mock, or simply look upon another person with disgust solely based on a difference of beliefs, that can be viewed as intolerant. So, I do agree. The shame of it all is that atheists refuse to acknowledge their own intolerant behavior.

I think that's a load of rubbish, as I for one am an atheist, but I am tolerant... of course, only to a certain degree.

"Do you agree with Mr Patten's views?"

No. Mr. Patten's generalization is just that - a generalization, and thus is just as often right as it is wrong (in this case, wrong).

So the group that's being persecuted is supposed to be tolerant of that persecution? That doesn't make any sense at all. Tell you what, get your religion out of my laws and politics and I'll be more tolerant of your religion.

Are all Muslims terrorists?
Are all Germans Nazis?
Are all Americans stupid?
Are all blondes brainless?
Are all Christians fundies?
Do all Arabs hate Jews?
Are all Jews Orthodox?
Are all French arrogant?
Do all Spaniards love flamenco?
Do all Finns drink their heads off?
Do all Canadians say "eh"?

etc.

In short, not all atheists are intolerant.

No idea who he is, and atheists are intolerant of people who have faith when those people try to foist it on others and enact laws based on their religious delusions. So, he could very well be right. Too bad he made a sweeping statement and failed to support it with any examples. Nice to see that most people rejected his comments and question his leadership.

Since faith is the most horrible evil mankind has ever faced, intolerance of it is entirely justified. Faith is the doctrine that you can believe whatever you want, and act on it, with no obligation to rationally defend the beliefs that guide your actions to others.

The main guiding belief behind the terrorists who hijacked airliners and flew them into buildings was that if you believe God wants you to do something, you should do it. Once this belief is accepted, it's game over, because there's no rational way to determine what God wants you to do. All who share this belief share some part of the blame.

Nope, not all, but some. Some of christians are too, and it's sad for me to see that, but that's the truth.

Anyway, atheists do make their own sects. In my community it's called humanists, a belief that human is the highest of all existence, even the universe, and can make everything happens without God. It's an undeniable fact.

But, like any other sects, they can't explain some of their flaws, like why they can't stop the natural disasters such as Tsunamis, earthquakes. How the world happens while humans weren't there and the list will go on everyday. They think logically, but sometimes there are just some answers that can't be answered by logic.

Bottomline is, they make their own sects with their renaissance style of thinking, and like any other sect members, some of them are intolerant.
