Default buy refurbished electronics, or not

Refurbished electronics should be as good as,
if not better than, any that are new-in-the-box.

Refurbs are often simply unwanted returned items that work properly.

Others are defectives that have been repaired
and should last as long as "new" items.

To answer this question, I'm using a "refurbed" HP Compaq
NC6220 laptop that was purchased from Overstock in 2009.
So far, it seems to be working OK.

The best reason to buy "new" rather than refurbed
would be that the item is a gift for someone else.

Otherwise, it shouldn't matter.

Keep in mind that there is a big difference between
refurbished and "out of box" / "open box" items.
