im trying to get my friend a car charger and i know his carrier is verizon i just dont know what type of phone it is..its a surprise so i didnt want to ask him what type of phone he had. But I want to make sure the charger fits the phone..

Most android phones made since 2009 use a micro usb charging port in which Verizon sells a Verizon branded universal one.
If he has an iPhone 4s and later you will have to get an Apple charger,
If he has an iPhone 5 the charger is different than the 4S and later.
What I would do is act like I am about to upgrade my phone & get on the topic of "which phone should I get, which one do you have? Do you like it?" and play dumb and you will get your answer.
