Default On an Android, I 'copy update package to storage card for system updates'

I just got a ZTE Merit (It's also an AT&T avail by all accounts) and it has Android version 2.3.5. Under system updates it says storage card updates. When i click on that it says "Please copy update package to image directory on storage card, then click OK button. This will erase all data from your phone's internal storage, including: your Google account, system and application data and setting, downloaded applications."

What is this package, where do I get it, what do I do with it once I have it? I'm really quite lost and any help is much appreciated.
